else I do my photos are about emotion. I'm interested in causing
and recording emotion through action and interactive sequence,
the sequence meant to tell a story of sorts, a dream. I am a lyricist
and my feeling for rhythm and song dictates that these photos not
be titled or in any other way impinged by the written word. The
visuals speak for themselves in their relationships and theme and
I have no interest in the where and when of it all. These dreams
exist through the viewfinder of the camera and express a reality
seen only through a lens but experienced by us all in every moment
of puzzlement in waking life" Emotion in Action is a book of photographs done in collaboration with the German printer Gerhard Steidl. His credits are too numerous to mention. However Lou spent a week working with him in his studio complex in which all is in house except for the paper which is ordered. The pictures are printed from the most advanced techniques
available using the finest machinery. Lou wishes he had taken pictures
of the process and the amazing printers but he was busy working. Lou is collecting every lens available for his new Olympus E1- the first digital camera built to be digital from the ground up. He has waited two years for this having been a major fan of the E10. Only this could satisfy the fan of the Carl Zeiss lens and Contax film cameras. Most of the photos in Emotions in Action were taken using Contax or Leica cameras. |

Berlin Berlin is a concept album that represented a brave departure from the familiar sounds and themes of Lou Reed's earlier solo work, a tragic tale about heartbreak and addiction meant to be played live as a rock opera, in the vein of The Who's Tommy. But its poor reception meant that plans for a live performance were put on hold until 2007, when, with a renewed confidence in the material, Reed toured with a full orchestra and choir, giving some of the most personal and powerful performances of his career. The tour was filmed by legendary artist Julian Schnabel, a longtime friend of Reed's who also designed the spare and beautiful set, and whose daughter Lola contributed moving images projected behind the stage. U. This is a mixture of book, fanzine and comics magazine. Contains biography, interview (by Danny Fields), discography and lots of comics stripes inspired by Lou Reed and The VU. The cover and the inside comics were used by Lou for his solo LP Take no Prisoners. The original cover is from Nazario, a famous comics illustrator in those times. Lou told someone else (not need to mention it) to draw it for his LP cover without asking permission to the author, saying that Nazario and the other illustrators in the book never ask any permission to him to use his image. There was a sue from the editors and Nazario against Lou Reed for the copyright of the illustration, and the cover for this LP here in Spain was changed to another one with a photograph of Lou on stage in his blonde-hair times. |
